Resort Design

Michael Lee Design specializes in planning, designing, and producing resorts. We believe resorts are stories in three dimensions. Our goal is to immerse guests in those stories through the most tangible experiences an environment can offer. We are “experience producers” and that is what distinguishes us from architectural planners.

Atlantis Bahamas

Michael Lee Design took part in the initial concept plans of Atlantis Resort, Phase II, located on Paradise Island, Bahamas. The owner had originally conceived of a Mediterranean Atlantis theme, but upon recommendation of MLD opted for an American version of the Atlantis story and employed a Mayan palette of visual icons. Our original sketches are shown along with photos of the finished project.

Eastern Band Cherokee Indians

Cherokee, North Carolina has been a tourist town for many years. With the success of Harrah’s Casino the community leaders decided to plan for the addition of other family oriented attractions which would add further tourist traffic and length of stay. Michael Lee Design was hired to review the existing attraction offerings, make recommendations for future planning and to begin the master planning of primary attraction zones within the community. We also offered preliminary opinions on the formation of a new School of the Arts to bolster arts education, to be sponsored, in part, by the Cherokee Preservation Foundation.
